Hello everyone. This is my first fanfic.
Any tips and constructive criticism are
welcome. Enjoy.

"Alright squad, get your gear and be
ready to move out. We're going to
investigate that crashed Covenant ship
and neutralize any hostiles." Sergeant
Hank Ericson ordered.

Derrick Johnson picked up his assault
rifle and made sure he had a full clip.
He picked up spare clips and put them in
his equipment belt. Derrick scanned the
area and noticed his squad mates.

Ryan had dark hair and skin. He was the
tallest and smartest but he was the quiet
one of the squad.

Mark was the heart of the squad. He made
everyone laugh and cheered them up.

The Sergeant was a big man. Very muscular.
He had many scars from previous campaigns.
Hank had been on Delta Halo with the Chief.

And then there was Caleb Jones. He was one
of Derrick's best friends. Caleb wasn't the
bravest soldier of all time, but when the
sarge needed him to do something, he was right
on it.

Derrick noticed someone was missing. He found
Rachel Snow sitting on a rock staring at the
giant blue orb that hung in the sky over the
ancient structure in the drained lake. The orb
seemed to be a teleporter.

"Hey, Rachel, we need to go." Derrick said.
Rachel looked up at Derrick and nodded. She
got her gear and stood up. Rachel was beautiful.
She had deep brown eyes and black hair. The
only thing that disrupted her enchanting
features was a scar that ran along her right
cheek.

They caught up to the squad as they entered the
city of Voi,Kenya. They moved to a large
warehouse. The lights were off so it was very
dark inside.

 "Flashlights people." Hank said. Everyone
turned on the flashlights on their weapons. It
didn't help much but it was better than nothing.
Derrick was careful not to run into the many
boxes that filled the warehouse.

There were many bodies here and there. Both
Covenant and Humans. But one corpse made Derrick
look twice. There was a large gash going across
a marine's abdomen. Derrick hadn't seen any weapon
that could do this.

Suddenly, Ryan let out a pained scream. Derrick
quickly spun in Ryan's direction. He shined his
flashlight on Ryan. What he saw horrified him.

There was a large claw protruding from Ryan's
stomach. He was lifted from the ground and thrown
away. The "thing" that killed Ryan was hideous.
It seemed to be what remained of a Brute, but
deformed. The "Brute" was a sick yellow. The
head was missing the bottom jaw and it rolled
unnaturally. Tentacles were waving out of the
chest. The arm was replaced by claw and tentacles.
It started to shuffle toward Derrick. The sight
almost made Derrick vomit.

Then several of the zombies started pouring
into the warehouse. They bashed their way in,
broke through doors, fell from the skylights,
they got in anyway they could and swarmed
around the squad.

"Fall back, fall back!" Hank yelled. The squad
weaved through the crates and boxes. They spotted
a door and sprinted toward it. One of the zombies
caught up to Mark and slashed at his foot. He
cursed as he went down. Rachel noticed this and
ran to help. She shot down the monster and tried
to help Mark up. The wound was bad. Mark's foot
was just dangling.

"No, go on without me. I'll only slow us down
and we'll all die." Mark said.

 "But-" Rachel started.

"Run damn it! I'll hold them off!" Mark yelled.

Reluctantly, Rachel ran through the door, leaving
Mark behind.

"Come and get me you ugly bastards." Mark said as
he raised his assault rifle. The mob rushed toward
him and Mark shot at them. As soon as he emptied
the clip he pulled out his M6 sidearm. When that
was empty he pulled out his grenades and rolled
some into the ranks of the zombies. Mark held one
grenade in each hand and pulled the pins. He waited
for the bang as the monsters crowded around him.

What remained of the squad had moved further into
the warehouse when they heard an explosion down the
hall. They immediately knew what happened. They
wouldn't let the sacrifice go in vain.

The squad rounded a corner and saw a marine and a
bulbous creature. The creature was the size of a
small dog. It used tentacles to skitter around.
It, too, was a sick yellow color. The creature
jumped on the marine and burrowed into his chest.
The marine started screaming in pain as the
parasite took control. Derrick felt sick as he heard
every bone in the marine's body break. A claw replaced
the left arm and tentacles grew from the claw. The
marine's screams of agony were cut short as his neck
was broken and his head pushed aside by a yellow mass
of muscle. His body started growing out of his clothes.

 After the gruesome transformation was
complete the creature spotted Caleb and let out a

bloodcurdling scream and leaped toward him. Caleb was
too stunned to react but the sarge blew the zombie in
half with his shotgun.

They moved further into the warehouse when they
found a door that led into the brisk, cool, night air.

"Look, a Pelican!" Derrick said. There was an
abandoned Pelican sitting on a landing pad waiting
for someone to fly it.

"Jones, you know how to fly decently, right?" Hank
asked.

 "Yes sir!" Caleb replied.

"Alright you're co-pilot. Get in the cockpit." Hank ordered.

The group ran toward the Pelican. Hank and Caleb
climbed into the cockpit while Derrick and Rachel sat
in the seats. They started to take off when they were

attacked. The Pelican rocked as the creatures jumped
onto it. Derrick felt an explosion from the right
side of the Pelican. They started to go down. The
Pelican skipped on the ground and Rachel and Derrick
were knocked out of the Pelican.

Derrick slowly got up and radioed Caleb.

"Caleb, can you read me? Caleb come in!" Derrick
said.

"I can't control her! We're going to crash. The
sarge is gone." Caleb said as the Pelican started to
go in an arc to the right behind a large hill.

"Get out o-" Caleb started but was cut short as the

Pelican crashed behind the hill. Derrick could only
hear static.

"Caleb! Caleb come in damn it!" Derrick yelled.
Static.

"Come on we need to go, now!" Rachel said as she
pulled Derrick away. They entered another building
and ran down the corridors. Rachel and Derrick
rounded a corner and then spikes whizzed by. Rachel
took cover behind the wall and Derrick ducked behind
a small crate in the corridor.

The creature that was shooting at them was another
one of those things but this didn't look like
anything that Derrick had seen. It had what
appeared to be a large tail that had spikes
growing out of it. It kept shooting those spikes
at Rachel and Derrick.

Derrick shot at the creature. He thought he must
have hurt it because he heard it yelp. It started
to transform. This time it had legs and a small
body with what looked like pincers. It scurried
down the hallway and turned around the corner.
Rachel and Derrick pursued it. They rounded the
corner and Derrick ducked just as a large arm
barely missed his head.

This form seemed to be purely made of muscle. It
was much taller than the previous forms and looked
strong. Tentacles sprouted out from what seemed to
be its face. Derrick and Rachel backpedaled and
fired at the monstrosity. It shrugged off the
bullets as if they were nothing. Derrick had his
back against a wall and the creature rushed toward
him. It swung its arm at Derrick's head and Derrick
ducked as the thing left a dent in the wall.

It raised its arm ready to smash Derrick's head
when a shotgun blast made the creature reel back.

"Get away from him!" Rachel yelled and shot again.
She kept shooting until the monster crashed on the
floor. Rachel looked at Derrick and smiled. Derrick
smiled back.

 "Thanks." Derrick said.

"No problem" She replied. They heard screams of
the zombies getting closer. Derrick got back up
and they ran further down the hallway.

They entered a storage room. They ran up to a large
door that was opened via a large yellow button.
Derrick found the button and pressed it. The door
started to rise open but got stuck.

"No, no, come on open!" Derrick said as he
repeatedly pressed the button.

"What's taking so long?!" Rachel asked.

"It's stuck. It won't open!" Derrick replied.

"Well looks like we're going to have to fight."
Rachel said. "Come on, there's a machine gun on
that catwalk, let's go!" Rachel and Derrick ran
up some stairs to a catwalk. Rachel manned the
turret. They waited for the inevitable swarm of
zombies. It finally came. There was so many of
them. Derrick doubted they would live through
this. But he would go down fists swinging. Rachel
just kept firing at the ranks of monsters until
the machine gun overheated and she pulled out
the shotgun. Derrick ran out of ammo and switched
to his M6.

One of the creatures leaped onto the catwalk. It
was Ryan. Derrick could tell by what remained of Ryan
and the large hole in his stomach.

"Ryan can you hear me?" Derrick asked. Ryan made
no indication that he understood Derrick. "Come
on man do you remember me? We're friends." Derrick
said. Ryan still showed no signs of remembering
and started to run toward Derrick. "No, man, stop.
I don't want to kill you. Please stop." Derrick
pleaded. Ryan just kept running and was nearing
Derrick. He raised his arm and was ready to kill
his former squad mate and friend. Derrick emptied
the rest of his clip into Ryan. Ryan fell on the
floor at Derrick's feet.

Derrick couldn't believe what he had done. He had
just killed Ryan. But it wasn't Ryan anymore. The
parasite had changed him. But Derrick still hated
what he had done. Derrick hated the zombies
even more though. They had taken Ryan, Mark,
the sarge, and Caleb. He wasn't about to let
them take Rachel.

Derrick threw everything he had at the monsters.
He threw all his grenades and emptied all his
clips. Derrick looked at Rachel and Rachel
looked back. The grim face that she gave him
told him that she was low on ammo. They were
going to die.

Suddenly, there was a loud explosion. Derrick and
Rachel looked at the direction of the blast. Something
had blasted open a hole in the wall of the building.
In flew a Hornet, firing at the mass of zombies. The

monsters were torn to shreds by the Hornet. The
window of the cockpit slid open and a familiar
voice yelled at them.

"Get on!" The voice said. It was Caleb. Derrick
and Rachel jumped off the catwalk and sprinted
toward the Hornet. They both got on one of the
platforms of the Hornet.

"Go! Go! Go!" Derrick hollered. The Hornet took
off and flew out the hole into the night. Derrick
felt intense heat and smelled something burning.
He turned to see Voi being glassed by Covenant ships.
The parasite would be obliterated. Good riddance.
